OUR MISSION & HISTORY
Our journey began in 2017 with a simple act of goodwill. Mr. Manjula and Mrs. Natha Nilwakke started by providing charitable aid to struggling communities in rural Sri Lanka. However, the 2020 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic devastated the nation, exacerbating the challenges faced by the lower class. Mr. Manjula recognized that simply feeding the poor wasn't a sustainable solution. He envisioned a more empowering approach: creating jobs.
Instead of handouts, Mr. Manjula believed in providing opportunities. He established a spice factory, training and employing local residents, primarily women, in the production process. These spices were then sold within Sri Lanka. Now, with our "Powered by Women" initiative, we're expanding our reach to Europe. This revolutionary project aims to export these high-quality spices, providing even greater employment opportunities and economic stability for these communities.
Furthermore, we've discovered a wealth of unique Sri Lankan artistry, including crafting, gardening decor, and traditional woodcrafting. We're working with skilled artisans in rural areas, many of whom are in need, to bring these exquisite creations to a global market. The "Powered by Women" website serves as a platform to showcase and sell these handcrafted treasures, directly supporting these communities and preserving Sri Lankan heritage.
